Have you ever found yourself praying and praying and praying for things, but God doesn’t seem like he’s really working? You’re on your knees every night asking God to bring you that internship, that relationship, that job, a vision for your new business, a Word, etc. You’re starting to get a little frustrated because it’s like God where are you? I’m doing the best I can and God You promised You’d fulfill all that you promised me… But I don’t see it right now. Then God sends you what you asked for. Better yet, what we decided to do when we saw that God wasn’t working on our time table. We’re telling everybody we know “look what God did”, “God sent me so and so”. But in real life, it was us pursuing it. It wasn’t God led.
Often times the things we pursue without waiting on God are just a taste of what He could do. Imagine when you’re making a cake and you’ve finished mixing and you decide to lick the batter off of the spoon. The batter is delicious, but eating too much of the batter could make you sick. After all, the purpose for you licking the spoon is only to get a FORETASTE of what the baked cake will taste like. How many of us are settling for batter? How many of us have gotten ourselves into situations that we’re “sick” of because we got so excited over batter than we forgot to put the cake in the oven. We want the cake, but we felt like this could “tie us over”. We didn’t want to go wait for our cake to be done. We wanted what was most convenient and what would be the quickest fix.
If you could only see what God has in store for you. Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Have you ever noticed that most of the things that we try to do by ourselves, without God, end up in disaster?) In other words, God has plans to give you cake and not batter. He wants to give things that will make you BETTER and not BITTER. He wants to give you everything that He promised you, but you may have to wait for it. You may have to pass up a few “tastes” or tests, in order to get there. Will it be easy? Probably not. But God is with you. He’ll never leave you nor forsake you. Remember: This is just a taste :).
I’m praying for you and I love you,
P.S. You’ll know when things are God ordained. It won’t be forced. And you’ll be fulfilling your purpose too :).
